Puffy Eyes

Puffy eyes are a condition where the eyes start swelling because of different factors. Puffy eyes can be caused by many factors. These involve fluid retention, stress, allergies, hormone changes, and other factors as well.

Puffy eyes might also be accompanied by dark circles around the eyes, that can be because of lack of adequate sleep. They also become more conspicuous as we age and the fat around our eyes gets pushed forward. If you have allergies, a cold, or are pre-menstrual, the puffiness can be worse. Usually, this puffiness is more perceptible in the mornings as fluid builds up while you sleep.

Puffy eyes can be a real complication. They are usually worse in the morning and can be enhanced by sinus/allergy trouble. This can be caused by various factors such as too much sodium in a diet causing water retention, tossing and turning and not getting sufficient sleep, excessive drinking of alcohol, and others as well.

Generally puffy eyes will go away after a little bit of time or some treatments done at home. However, puffy eyes are also hallmarks of other eye conditions which may require examination by an eye care professional. Avoid overly windy conditions. Wear glasses or goggles to help protect your eyes and act as a buffer against intensive environmental conditions. Drinking plenty of water, limiting alcohol and salt consumption and protecting your skin from the harsh sun will help reduce this problem.
