Oily Skin

Oily skin is shiny, thick and dull colored. Oily skin have a lot of sebum that helps prevent the skin from drying out. Nonetheless, oily skin tends to entice more dirt and dust than dry skin.

Oily skin can cause blemishes and a shiny face. In this type of skin, the oil producing sebaceous glands are hyperactive and produce more oil than is needed. Due to f the hormonal shifts of adolescence, oily skin is common in teenagers, but it can occur at any age. In general, skin tends to become dryer with age.

Oily skin is something of a mixed blessing. On the positive side, it is slow to develop discolorations, fine lines, and wrinkles. Usually a chronically oily skin has coarse pores and pimples and other humiliating blemishes. It is prone to blackheads.

Oily skin is caused by over-active glands, that produce a substance called Asebum, a naturally healthy skin lubricant. When the skin produces too much sebum, it becomes thick and heavy in contexture. Oily skin requires especial cleansing with plenty of hot water and soap to prevent the pores from being clogged.

The most essential thing you can do for oily skin is to keep your skin clean using warm water and soap, or a soapless cleanser. Skin oil is made of sebum, that is produced by sebaceous glands. Excessive sebum can be controlled with topical applications as well as by using products such as oil blotting papers.

Skin Care for Oily Skin

  • To cleanse oily skin, use oil-based products as they dissolve sebum efficiently. Choose for oil-free moisturizers to maintain a shine-free complexion.
  • Use hot water when washing your face. Hot water dissolves skin oil better than lukewarm or cold water.
  • Clean your face with astringent pads if frequently washing your face leaves your skin irritated.
  • Use only noncomedogenic moisturizers and sunscreen products' this means they're oil-free and won't clog pores.
  • Try using a clay or mud mask. If you have sensitive skin, use white or rose-colored clays.
  • Drink eight glasses of water a day.
  • Before applying makeup, use an antiseptic day cream with active ingredients that diminish sebaceous secretions. Look for benzyl peroxide in the list of active ingredients.
