How to apply foundation

Foundation helps to even out skin tone and give the impression of flawless skin. Apply in the morning and set with powder to keep a smooth personality all day. There are different types of foundations. If you have sensitive skin, look for formulations that do not have potential irritants such as fragrance, chemical sunscreens and alpha hydroxyl acids.

Grown-up, dry skins will advantage from rich, creamy foundations that have emollients to boost the skin's moisture content and antioxidants to protect from environmental damage. Oily, problem skins will blessed from oil-free formulations that are enriched with oil absorbers to keep unsightly shine at bay.

Liquid foundations commonly offer sheer coverage and provide a natural look. Most women favour a liquid foundation because it is easy to apply and fits like a "second skin".

The right and correct use of foundation could help you hide the roughness of your skin such as spots, scars, pimples, blemishes and other irritated areas. Normal skins can wear any sort of foundation. Many people use foundation to cover up their dark undereye circles a bit, but if you have any pimples, red spots or dark circles, use a concealer, not foundation.

To set your foundation, apply some loose powder (for a little finish) or pressed powder (for a more heavier finish). Foundation is always applied downwards, to reduce the impact of facial hair. Foundation should never resemble like a mask. The shade selected should be as close to your natural skin tone, so that there is no sudden change of colours between Chin and neck.

Steps to apply foundation:

  • Always apply makeup over a clean face.
  • Moisturize after cleansing.
  • Camouflage under-eye circles and blemishes with concealer.
  • Choose a foundation which is perfect to your skin type and the coverage you wish to achieve. The color should suit your skin, disappearing when blended well.
  • Shake the bottle well to mix the formula. Or, just open a stick or compact version.
  • Start applying the foundation preferably using a makeup sponge. Make sure you apply a uniform coat.
  • While applying the liquid or cream foundations dot the foundation sparingly on one side of the face first and blend well with makeup sponge.
  • If it is powder foundation then you should set it by dipping a brush into the powder and going over the face in circular strokes.
  • You should apply the powder by gently pressing it into the skin. And while applying it, be virtual with it and concentrate on the eyes and creases around the nostrils.
  • To soak up excess oil and for a natural look, blot the face with a tissue after applying the foundation.
