Homemade Rose Water Recipes


Rose water is used in cosmetics for its pulchritudinous scent, but also as it has light astringent properties. As the faintest of all astringents, rose water is usually used as toner for fair and dry skin. Typically, rose water is made using damask roses, many-petaled and fragrant. The uses of rose water are as ranged and numerous as the petals of a damask rose.

Roses are the most idolized flower in the world today and have probably always been the most revered flower. Ancient civilizations venerated them for their beauty, aromatic oil, and medicinal powers. Most western countries are familiar with rose water or rose oil as an addition to fragrances and in body and facial creams.

More currently it has been introduced as a skin toner, and many people also relish its use in diversed applications of aromatherapy. Roses belong to the family Rosaceae, and the genus Rosa. Wild Species Roses contain many various varieties. They have colorful five-petaled flowers, generally bloom once in the summer, and are usually very hardy.

Pure rose water is the distilled water of roses. It is usually made by stream distillation, and it smells ambrosial and tastes delicious. Rose water also provides the primary condiment for many sweet treats. A teaspoon may be added to mango lassi or marzipan. Turkish delight, a popular candy in many Arab countries, gets its unique taste from this flavoring.

Rose water can specifically be made at home with either very simple methods or more complex distillation techniques. The simplest method is to combine rose petals and water in a sun tea jar and set the jar in the sun for several days. Keep in mind that care should be taken when contriving these home recipes. They are not prolonging and are subject to growing bacteria, that may be quite dangerous if used in food. In ancient Rome, people enjoyed bathing in rose water, and it was, and still is, regarded to have anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties. For this reason, rosewater was usually used to wash one's hands.

Homemade rose water:

  • A stainless steel container.
  • A pressure cooker with screen
  • Two to five feet long plastic hose.
  • Darkly tinted glass bottles

Place the rose petal on the screen above water. Boil the water for few minutes and run cold water on the hose. Collect the rose water and oil in the stainless steel container. The oil can be moved to glass bottles. Hence the rose water is prepared.

Homemade rose water cleansing cream:

  • 1 tablespoon beeswax or white paraffin wax.
  • 1 tablespoon emulsifying wax.
  • 4 tablespoons mineral oil.
  • 6 tablespoons rose water t teaspoon borax.
  • A few drops of rose oil.

Melt the waxes and oil together. At the same time heat the water and borax and make sure that the borax is completely dissolved. Remove both bowls from the heat and pour water into the oil. Continue stirring until a white cream starts to form. Add a few drops of rose oil when the mixture begins to cool. Carry on beating until tbe mixture thickens.
